Why I agree with Justice Katju

By nish On November 3, 2011 · Leave a Comment

To be honest I haven’t heard about Justice Katju before his interview with Karan Thapar, but does it matter? This post is about what Justice Katju said to Karan Thapar and for which celebrity journalist couple of Mr & Mrs Sardesai started conducting poll, debates and tweeting

Should Justice Katju apologise to journalists for calling them uneducated?

Few editors and coloumnist have already written or will be in process of writing articles criticizing Justice Katju. As expected Editor’s guild issued a statement criticizing Justice Ratju

The Editors Guild today (November 1) termed as “ill-considered” the comments made by the new Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju against the media and vowed to oppose any move by it to assume “draconian” powers and bring the electronic media under its ambit.

I presume people at large would be happy with what Justice Ratju’s view on currents state on Indian media, at least I do and here I will discuss key points as mentioned by Justice Katju.  Read more... (1426 words, 3 images, estimated 5:42 mins reading time)

Amazing Diwali Pictures from India And Across Globe

By nish On October 27, 2011 · 1 Comment

Deepavali or Diwali, popularly known as the “festival of lights,” is a festival celebrated in India between mid-October and mid-November. For Hindus, Diwali is the biggest and most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes and bursting fire crakers at night.

from wikipedia:

The name “Diwali” is a contraction of “Deepavali” (Sanskrit: D?p?val?), which translates into “row of lamps”. Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps (diyas or d?pas) in Sanskrit) filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil.

Jan Lokpal or Lokpal? Which one you understand?

By nish On August 26, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Whole India is debating about corruption, Govt’s Lokpal Bill and JanLokpal. This debate is even more intense on social media platforms like  Twitter & Facebook. & My hypothesis is that this debate is not on actual points of bill but on headlines & keywords. Trying conduct a poll and see where people stand on both bills.

Government’s version of Lokpal & Jan Lokpal

PM of India or Congress?

By nish On August 16, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Dr Manmohan Singh,

In 2004, you were an accidental prime minister after Congress’s marginal victory over incumbent BJP, Gandhi dynasty placed you as someone who they can trust and who will vacate the chair for PM in waiting. You accepted the command and started the job of PM, answerable to 1 person instead to the citizens of this country. This young India waited to hear from you for months and but we only got pre written ‘off the shelf’ speeches which lacked depth and sincerity. Suddenly, one day you rose to defy everyone and somehow passed the nuclear deal, still not sure was that your guts or pressure from someone outside. As much as history will remember you for good & bad of nuclear deal, you will also be remembered for ‘Cash for Vote’ scam.   Read more... (575 words, 1 image, estimated 2:18 mins reading time)

Integrate Google Plus (+) with Facebook and Twitter

By nish On July 30, 2011 · Leave a Comment

So now we have Google+, Facebook and Twitter, the three most used social (time wasting) activities. A lot has been written about strength and weaknesses of both Google+ and facebook. As a user, I just want one place/ tool that can  replicate status at Fb , G+ and Twitter and like me many are asking for something like this. So, here is my post on ‘How can you have a status update replicated on all three, Fb, Google+ and Twitter’.

Note: This feature is only available in Chrome browser and at a personal level I feel Chrome is much better than mozilla or IE. I am yet to see and test any app with similar feature for android or iphone.

So this Chrome extension is called ‘Helper for Google+’ by kupriyanov.  As per the author’s it adds extra functions to Google+. Get desktop notifications on new posts. Share Posts via twitter. Translate posts with Google Translate. Bookmark posts faster for reading later (also to delicious.com). Linked #hashtags. Search in posts and profiles directly from your omnibox.  Read more... Management Funda – Knowledge or Effort

By nish On May 12, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Got this in email today, old story regularly spoken about in management classes

A giant ship engine failed. The ship’s owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure but how to fix the engine. Effort or Knowledge

Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was  young. He carried a large bag of tools with him and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully top to bottom.

Two of the ship’s owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed!

A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars.  Read more... (225 words, 1 image, estimated 54 secs reading time)

By nish On February 14, 2011 · 10 Comments

Update: Now Samjwadi Party’s official page on facebook also mentions that Bhagat Singh was hanged on 14th Feb

In LAHORE On 14 Feb 1931, Morning The Legendary BHAGAT SINGH, RAJGURU & SUKHDEV Were Hanged To Their Deaths.
We Only Celebrate Valentine Day………:)
Lets PassThis Massage To Everybody And Salute Their Sacrifice ……

—-Original Post—–

Bhagat Singh died 37 days before due to Wikipedia Loophole & Celebrity Tweet

This is a classic example of how Wikipedia and other powerful social websites can be used to spread rumors. With start of Valentine’s day I noticed ‘Bhagat Singh’ trending on Twitter in India. I was surprised and when I clicked on ‘Bhagat Singh’ I noticed the top tweet by @mritunjoykjha (Executive Editor with IBN7(IBN18))

” On 14.2.1931, Lahore, in morning time the legendary BHAGAT SINGH, RAJGURU & SUKHDEV were hanged..Happy Valen.. Day”

Zodiac Reshuffle: Give me back my Zodiac

By nish On January 28, 2011 · 2 Comments

“We need not feel ashamed of flirting with the zodiac.  The zodiac is well worth flirting with.  ~D.H. Lawrence”

And we are very well flirting with Zodiac, What’s you zodiac? Is it out of these 12 Old Zodiac signs: Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), Air (Libra, Aquarius, Gemini) and Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Now, Stephanie Pappas at Livesciences created a stir with the post titled “Wobbly Earth Means Your Horoscope Is Wrong” , here is the relevant section from that post

Thanks to Earth’s wobble, astrological signs are, well, bunk. (Or even more bunk than you might expect.) Astrological signs are determined by the position of the sun relative to certain constellations on a person’s day of birth. The problem is, the positions were determined more than 2,000 years ago. Nowadays, the stars have shifted in the night sky so much that horoscope signs are nearly a month off.  Read more... (327 words, 1 image, estimated 1:18 mins reading time)

Phishing Email from Google – Google Technical Support Dept (GTST)

By nish On January 25, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Today I received an email in my Gmail inbox with subject line Google Technical Support Unit. The specific email asked me to provide my id, password and countryas google is upgrading their mailing system. Considering google mail system to very secure, email users believe in this email and  prvide their id and password.

I am just writing this blog so that my readers are aware as in how to identify a phishing email. Most important and successful principle that help you identify phishing email is that no legitimate organization will ask your email/web password, Social Security number, bank account number, PIN number, credit card number, etc.) in an email. It should ring a bell in your mind, if you receive any email asking for password.  Other indicator is they will look like an official page.  The intent of these phishing emails is this to steal your email address, money, your credit card number, identity or could be other malice.   Read more...
