Google, flood and Technology

The devastation by Kosi river in Bihar (one of the eastern states of India) has left many dead and many more homeless. Every one is trying to contribute in this situation, goverment & NGOs are running relief camps and trying to reach out to people stuck in the flood. Organizations are donating big amount, old clothes, food & medicines. At this, juncture Google is contributing through its one of the applications, google map.  If you open www.google.co.in (india specif google home page), you will find a link to “India and Nepal floods: maps & resources” which shows the map of affected area and resources available in that area.

This is an excellent use of IT and bring out the importance of IT in a case of a disaster. As we know in India, every year there is a major disastor and that leads to a suggestion to indian goverment that India should invest heavily in IT and lead the world in IT, not only in exporting IT services but using it IT knowledge and resources to strenghten security (as we know so many times indian  goverment websites have been hacked), disaster mangement, information exchange and virtually everywhere.

I was really happy to see that how google is making relationship with everyuser and using high traffic for helping people who are stuck in flood.

Good job Google.
